About Me
Munich, Germany 2011
My name is Bob Sarnowski. I live in Schererville, Indiana. I worked my entire career as an Electrician. I started at US Steel Corporation in 1973 where I served a four year apprenticeship. After eight years the steel industry in America started to fade and I was laid off. My next job was for the Chicago Tribune newspaper where I worked until I retired in 2019.
I've been painting miniatures going on 40 years. Like a lot of us in the hobby I started out building model airplanes and armor. I eventually joined a local IPMS club. At one of the meetings Shep Paine was a guest speaker. He brought along some copies of his first book for us to look through. I noticed there were some nicely painted single figures displayed on wood bases. I had never seen anything like this so I asked him about it. He mentioned the MMSI and how it was filled with people that painted figures like those in his book. I went to a meeting and then a show. I was hooked. I took Shep's painting class back in 1982 and never looked back. It's a fulfilling hobby and can also be a frustrating one. However it's one that I love. I've met many people through this hobby and made many friends. I've had the opportunity to travel to other countries to attend World Expos and see firsthand the work of European painters. Seeing these pieces and talking to others who don't mind sharing their techniques has made me into a better artist. No matter how good you think you are there is always someone better. Never stop learning and never stop trying.
